Why do we teach Sunday School or Kids Bible class?

Why do we teach Sunday School or Kids Bible class?

We had only 10 minutes left of class, and I had to remind the kids that they had to finish up with their crafts. I'll never forget the sigh that came out of each of the kids mouths after I announced how much time we had left. Just as they were leaving "Bran and Cam", said, "Teacher, is there no way you could teach us at school every day? Because, like, your class is fun, and our teachers are so mean, we do not want to go to school at all; it's such a drag."

That gave me something to think about. Along the journey, as teachers, we forget the "cause", the "reason", and the why," and then we become complacent as teachers'. We need to have a "why", and it is the "why" that propels us throughout the journey; it is the "why" that at times challenges us to improve and to keep going.

The reason why is quite simple. In Deuteronomy 6:7, God instructs the Israelites to teach his commandments to their children diligently, earnestly and consistently teaching God's word is a command from God.

Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it." We train and teach children because they do not know right from wrong and need guidance in the direction they should go. Once children know what is right and are guided in the direction they should go, they become wise in their adult years (1 Corinthians 13:11).

Mark 10:13–16: "Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for such belongs the kingdom of God." This text reveals to us the importance of children to the Lord; he considers them members of his congregation, hence the "slogan" or "mantra" for this blog. He wants all children to come to know him in order that their souls may be blessed through him.

What's the big deal? The big deal is that Sunday School or Kids Bible Class is a commandment from God, and through it, children are guided and shaped to become responsible adults who walk in integrity, and most of all, they get to have a relationship with God at an early age.

What are your thoughts on Sunday School? Are you in kids ministry, and what is your reason why? Did you get to attend Sunday School growing up? What was your experience like? Please feel free to share your thoughts and comments. I would looooooove to hear from you.
